| | MRPL, 26th October 2009 42 people have learnt to walk again from this year, thanks to Samrakshan's facilitation in partnership with Sukda Surgicals and the revolutionary Jaipur foot.
13 is supposed to be unlucky by some...but for these 42 people from different age groups and backgrounds, 13 was a lucky number and CSR Dept celebrated their raison d etre, for the 13th time!
The 13th Artificial Limb fitting camp was held at the MRPL Club Auditorium this year, from 26th to 28th October (2009). The response from the economically backward handicapped, limbless people was overwhelming. They applied via their Panchayats as was publicized through the Mangalore Media.
A short ceremony graced by Shri Lakshminarayana, GGM (HR) and Shri Prabhakar Upadhya GGM Ref i/c was held on 26th October 09 morning to welcome new light into the lives of all gathered and the honours of literally lighting up were done by Shri Sher Singh Team leader, Sukda Surgicals & Jaipur Foot and our GGMs by lighting the ONGC-MRPL lamp.


Short speeches followed.
Shri. K.Lakshminarayana, explained to the gathering of beneficiaries and their by-standers that camp is benefits poor people who have lost their legs due to various reasons and provides them with the wonderful jaipur foot for which otherwise they would ahev had to travel outside of the State. He acknowledged and appreciated the effort put in by Shri Sher Singh and his team who come all the way from Jaipur to Mangalore for this camp.
Shri. P.P.Upadhaya, GGM (I/C -Refinery) spoke about MRPL's consistent support to the handicapped and needy who have lost their legs in accidents, through health related problems like polio and how people have found new lives after the camp.
Team leader of M/s Sukda Surgicals, Jaipur who himself is an amputee, said he feels the pain of being crippled through loss of a limb and joyfully accepted his mission to help such people. He spoke glowingly about MRPL's Samrakshan and the CSR Team particularly Shrisha and Salian who slog to help them get the camp through successfully, year after year.
Then followed two days of hectic activity when measurements were taken, moulds made, baked, moulded again, fitted and finally baby steps were taken by the 42 beneficiaries, with their new found limbs. The smiles on their faces were priceless as they walked out after being helped in...!
