MRPL launches Smoke free village campaign

A programme to declare Yekkar, Bajpe and Malavoor Grama Panchayats ‘Smoke Free’ was held in MRPL Employees Club on 13th June 2018. The program was inaugurated by Shri Umanath Kotian, Hon’ble MLA, Mulki - Moodabidri in the presence of Shri M Venkatesh, Managing Director, Shri A.K.Sahoo, Director (Finance), Presidents and PDO’s of Yekkar and Malavoor Grama Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat Members. Dr. Bharat Shetty, Hon’ble MLA Mangalore - North later joined the programme.

MRPL has identified villages under three Grama Panchayats (GP) in its surroundings and decided to make them smoke free. About 132 families belonging to the villages under these Panchayats have been distributed with the free LPG kits. In addition to these, 161 left over families belonging to Chelairu, Soorinje, Permude, Jokatte Panchayats were also distributed the LPG kits. Earlier in 2016 & 2017, MRPL had distributed LPG kits to 372 BPL families identified from Bala, Chelairu, Soorinje, Permude and Jokatte Grama Panchayats. The cost of the gas kit as well as the gas stove which was provided to these beneficiaries was borne by MRPL under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Shri Ganesh Arbi, President Malavoor GP and Shri Suresh Shetty, President, Yekkar GP declared their respective Grama Panchayat Villages smoke free.

Shri Umanath Kotian speaking on the occasion thanked MRPL for taking steps towards fulfilling the dream of our PM to turn all the villages of our country smoke free. This will also help to improve the health of the women folk, he said. He also advised the beneficiaries to take utmost precautions while using the LPG.

Dr. Bharat Shetty spoke on the occasion and said that MRPL is doing a great job in helping these families and wished them to continue to do such good work.

Shri M Venkatesh, Managing Director, MRPL spoke and said that he is proud to help the needy in the surrounding villages. MRPL has identified 293 families and helped them this year under its CSR program and the company is extending this benefit within the framework of Govt. rules and guidelines, he said.

Shri Harish Baliga, CGM – CSR welcomed the gathering and Ms Veena T Shetty, Chief Manager - CSR proposed the vote of thanks. Mr Shrisha M Karmaran compered the programme.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Receipt of First Parcel of OVL Equity Crude ‘Das Blend’ from Abu Dhabi to MRPL

Shri Shashi Shanker, Chairman MRPL and ONGC Group companies visited MRPL on 8.6.2018. Shri NK Verma, MD, OVL also accompanied the Chairman. A meeting was held in Board Room with the senior management personnel and later had a press conference with the media personnel at Hotel Goldfinch in the evening.

The first equity cargo of OVL of about 6,90,000 barrels of ‘Das blend’ crude oil from Abu Dhabi arrived in the ship MT WAFRAH at Jetty No. 11 of NMPT. ONGC Videsh Ltd. had got a stake to develop the oil reserves at Abu Dhabi and it was the first time that Indian oil and gas companies have been given a stake in the Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon resources. The agreement had been signed in Abu Dhabi on 10th February 2018 in the presence of Hon. Prime Minister of India. This sale to MRPL further demonstrates the commitment of the ONGC Group in enhancing the energy security for the nation. On 9th June 2018, in a brief programme arranged on board the vessel MT WAFRAH, MD - OVL handed over the crude bottle to MD - MRPL in the presence of Chairman, MRPL and ONGC Group companies.

 

 

 

 

World Environment Day Celebration

MRPL celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2018 in a befitting manner with the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution”. This year for World Environmental Day, the host nation is India and the theme is "Beat Plastic Pollution". By choosing this Theme, it is aimed that people may strive to change their everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution. People should be free from the over-reliance on single-use plastic or disposables, as they have severe environmental consequences.

Shri UV Aithal, CGM – HSE & ISO welcomed the gathering. The Environment Pledge was administered in Kannada, Hindi and English by Shri Sushil Chandra, GGM – Projects, Shri Chander Mani, CGM – Maintenance Planning and Shri T Ramakrishna, GGM - Maintenance respectively.

Shri M Vinayakumar, GGM I/c Refinery, TS & MO while speaking on the occasion said that MRPL has joined hands with the district administration in developing water parks and planting more trees around us.

Shri Rajeev Kushwah, CVO spoke on the occasion and said that we have done more damage to the environment by overuse of plastic in the last ten years. Try to reuse the plastic and look for alternatives other than plastic, he said.

Dr Chandrashekhar Chowta, Chairman, Arboretum Sub Committee, Pilikula Nisarga Dhama was the chief guest of the programme. He spoke on the occasion and said that today we have become more dependent on plastics and using it in all activities of life. We have only one earth which has all the bio diversities to accommodate the living beings and we need to save it, he said.

Shri Madhav Ullal, Environmentalist and Rajyotsava Awardee spoke on the occasion and said that all countries need to come together in saving the environment. He encouraged using cloth bags instead of the plastic carry bags. He exhorted to plant more trees like Kadamba trees and save the environment.

Shri Rajshekhar Puranik, Environment Officer, KSPCB spoke and explained the ill effects of plastic and appealed audience to make use of plastics responsibly.

The attraction of the day was Miss Hani H.R, a nine year girl who had embarked on service to nature at such a fledgling age and has formed a team of activists of Environment called Green Warriors.

Shri M Venkatesh, Managing Director spoke on the occasion and said that plastic too has come from the nature but its misuse has created the problem. Research is required to convert the municipal waste with plastic into productive fuels, he said. Some such technologies are already under development he explained. Without the use of fuels and plastics we wouldn’t have grown to this level but we need to use it responsibly he concluded.

Prizes were given away to the winners in the various competitions held during the environment day celebrations.

As skit was enacted by Padua Ranga Adhyayana Kendra students to highlight the impact of plastic overuse. Various models on the theme of ‘Beat Plastics’ were presented by the DPS school students

Shri Pramod Mishra, DGM (Env & Safety) proposed the vote of thanks and Ms. Pavithra compered the programme. Saplings were planted by the dignitaries after the event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MRPL wins Platinum Trophy at 18th Annual Greentech Environment Award

MRPL has been recognized with Platinum Trophy at the 18th Annual Greentech Environment Award 2018 held at Guwahati on 31st May and 1st June 2018.

The award was presented by Shri Topon Kr. Gogoi, Minister of Power (Independent Charge), Government of Assam. Shri Devadas Shenoy K, GGM (I/c Operations) and Shri Sanjay Varma, GGM (HSE & ISO) received the award on behalf of MRPL.
