Thumbey Dam repaired and made ready with MRPL's timely intervention

In response to a call from the District Administration of Mangalore, Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), an ONGC Group Company, stepped in to carry out repairs of the Thumbey Dam this year also.

10 of the Pillars that had "holes" were filled up and the cracks in the "shutter bottom" in two places (72 & 73) were fixed. In all, repairs were made at 21 places wherein there is 'heavy passing' in the structure of the vented dam and MRPL shelled out Rupees ten lakhs to carry out this mission.

The repaired structures have been inspected by MCC Engineers who also held inspections while the work was in progress. The works itself was carried out by M/s New Mangalore Diving Services whom MRPL had contracted for Thumbey Dam repairs.

"Thumbey Dam feeds the water lifeline to Mangalore Corporation area and we realize how important the health of the Dam is, says Shri R Rajamani, Managing Director MRPL, "which is why we have ensured timely response and quality work sparing no expenses."

It maybe recalled last year too in the month of May 2007, 13 major and 7 minor leaks had been plugged and repairs carried out by MRPL at an outlay of Rupees Ten lakhs.
